In order to grow anything, the most important thing is soil health. If you know a little about soil biology, you know how important is soil texture if you want to grow grass. Lawn care service is all about the soil. To have good grass, you must have good soil.
Personally I see one main difference between good, and a bad lawn care service.
First the bad. It is this time of the year when I start receiving lawn care service cards in my mailbox.
Why do I think this is wrong? Because this is a product approach. Here this company is trying to sell me a product regardless if it is needed or not. And if they do that to me, they are doing this to every single customer. Is fertilization needed on my lawn? What about aeration, or de-thaching, or lime? That is what the sales rep told me I needed. When in fact, according to the soil test none of those things were needed.
Lawn care service and lawn care basics
The first thing to understand is that you have to treat each property differently. Because each property is different. And because of that, if a lawn care provider doesn’t even take a soil test to figure out what is the organic matter content, pH, C.E.C, and many other things, then, I would definitely think he or she will not provide the best care for my lawn.
However, if they start by taking a sample, and using only the products that are needed, then, I will know we are in the right direction.
My advice regarding lawn and garden care, is to avoid companies that try to sell you all types of applications for your property. Some of those applications could be dangerous for your health. Suggestions of products should be given only after reading the soil test recommendations. That is the only way to know what is really needed on your property.
