Since 2004, I’ve been using either a tractor mower, or a commercial Toro lawn mower. And for the past several years, I have been trying to use my small reel lawn mower. I recently mowed to an Ecovillage in rural Missouri with my family. We left behind all the commodities than an urban place has to offer. Now for the first time I am using a push reel mower to mow the lawn in my yard. I don’t have a big yard now, so a reel mower definitely works for me. I love it because it doesn’t really make that much noise. I don’t have to use any gas, and I get a good workout out of it.
Something I realized, is that you need to keep up with the weekly mowing. Otherwise, the grass will be too tall to be able to mow effectively.

Gas mowers are also great. There are newer models every year that polute less, and are self propelled. You can use them if you have a small yard.
I’ve also used a small electric mower. It does a great job, but you have to constantly drag an extension cord while you mow. Sometimes this can be a big of a challenge preventing the cord from being damaged by the mower blades. I tried last year an amazing electric mower. It is a commercial lawn mower. It comes in different sizes, and you don’t have to drag an extension cord while mowing. There are several models, from walk behinds, to ride mowers.
I really like my reel mower, because it makes a clear cut every time. It doesn’t take too much space to keep in in the shed, or under my house. However, this could not be the right piece of equipment for a property with a bigger yard. Next machine I purchase will definitely be an electric mower like the Green Mean mowers, because I will not have to worry about gas and oil change. It will pollute less, and the re-sell value is much higher. There are already commercial companies mowing lawns using electric mowers, blowers and trimers, like Clean Air Lawn Care.
